POLAND COACH:Pawel Jenas
Former Polish international Pawel Jenas took over the
coaching reins on February 12, 2003. Janas started his
pro career with Wlókniarz Pabianice, playing
there from 1965-73. He represented Poland 53 times and
was a member of the 1982 side that finish third in the
World Cup.
Born March 4, 1953, Janas turned to coaching as an assistant
at Legia Warsaw in 1988, then helped Wladyslaw Stachurski
direct the Polish youth team from 1990-1992 and was
assistant coach at the 1992 Summer Olympics as Poland
won a silver medal. He joined Legia Warsaw as an assistant
coach later that year. He finally became a head coach
in 1994 at Legia, his team twice winning the Polish
league and Polish Cup and advancing to the Champions
League quarterfinals in 1996. He went back to the Polish
Under-23s from 1996-99 and was vice president and manager
of Amica Wrokni until he took over the national reins
on December 20, 2002. His first match was a scoreless
tie vs. Croatia on February 13, 2003. Despite enjoying
success, Janas was heavily criticized for some of his
player selections. Grzegorz Raskia has been a favorite
of his at forward, although his critics claim there
are better players than him.
