Midfielder Michael Essien, who signed with Chelsea in a record (for an African) $43 million transfer from Lyon, is a major impact player at the age of 23. He scored three qualifying goals, making every one count. The man who makes this team go is midfielder and captain Stephen Appiah, who is only 25, and has played for three Serie A clubs in Italy.
