The U.S. Men's National Team will debut its new Nike away uniform when it faces the Netherlands at Amsterdam ArenA on Wednesday.
Kickoff for the team’s final FIFA international date before the World Cup is set for 2:30 p.m. ET with live coverage on ESPN2 and Galavision, and fans can follow online at ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and at twitter.com/ussoccer.
The new away jersey, which the U.S. will wear during the World Cup in South Africa, is obsidian blue with a white sash with red trim across the front from the right shoulder to the left side and includes a red round-neck collar.
Designed by Nike with the national culture and identity of the U.S. in mind, the jersey echoes the uniform worn by the U.S. Men’s National Team during the 1950 World Cup in which it defeated England, 1-0, in one of the biggest upsets in soccer history.
The replica jerseys are available to fans at ussoccerstore.com and will begin to ship on March 3, the day of the jersey’s debut on the field. The jersey is constructed with fabric recycled polyester from plastic bottles and features materials to stay cool and Dri-Fit moisture control. The U.S. Soccer crest is embroidered over the heart.
In addition to the historic background, the jersey also includes a number of unique modern elements. On the back of the collar it reads “USA,” while inside there is a graphic of a coiled rattlesnake. Inside the jersey, on the back of the gold-outlined U.S. Soccer crest over the left chest, there is a similar coiled rattlesnake, accompanied by ‘DTOM’, which stands for ‘Don’t Tread on Me,’ a rallying cry adopted by the most passionate U.S. supporters in the run-up to the 2006 World Cup.
