Marta goes to Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO, CA –Shannon Boxx was the first player taken in the dispersal draft of former Los Angeles Sol players. The U.S. national team midfielder was taken by Saint Louis Athletica, which traded three players to the Atlanta Beat earlier this week in exchange for the first pick.

But while most teams would be smacking their lips at the chance of getting the Brazilian superstar, her salary might be an obstacle for teams in the budget- conscious WPS.

WPS team folds after one season
After a turbulent offseason, the Los Angeles Sol of Women’s Professional Soccer has ceased operations. The team has been for sale since the middle of last year, when Anschutz Entertainment Group President Tim Leiweke all but announced that the company would no longer be willing to fund half of the team’s losses, estimated at more than $1 million.
