Mexico’s World Cup prep includes stop at Rose Bowl

LOS ANGELES – The Mexican National Team will kick off its World Cup 2010 preparations with a six-game U.S. Tour including a March 3 match against New Zealand at the Rose Bowl. The 8 p.m. match will be presented by Wrigley’s Extra, and advance ticket sales for Visa cardholders began today through Ticketmaster.

General ticket sales open February 1.

Both Chivas USA and the LA Galaxy are offering promotional ticket packages tied to the Mexico match. Chivas USA is offering a pair of ticket specials - a $75 package including a midfield seat to the Mexico-New Zealand game , as well as sideline seats for the first two Chivas USA home games of the season. For $30, fans can purchase a General Admission seat at both the Mexico match and Chivas USA’s home opener on March 26.

Galaxy fans can buy a two-game package incuding both the Mexico-New Zealand contest and either a ticket to the March 27 home opener against New England or the first match of the SuperClasico against Chivas USA on April 1. Prices are $30 for endline general admission or $75 for sideline seats.

As Mexico prepares for its 14th appearance in the FIFA World Cup this summer, the team will play in six cities across the United States between February 24 and May 13, 2010. Other stops include San Francisco (Feb. 24), Charlotte (March 24), New York/New Jersey (May 7), Chicago (May 10) and Houston (May 13).

“Our goal in the first half of 2010 is to prepare the Mexican National Team for the FIFA World Cup,” said Nestor de la Torre, director of national team programs for the Mexican Federation. “The U.S. tour allows us to test our squad while giving our fans from all parts of the country the chance to send us off to South Africa.”

The Mexican National Team last visited Los Angeles on Sept. 24, 2008, facing Chile at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and has played a total of 12 matches in the L.A. area since 2003. This will be the team’s second match at the Rose Bowl Stadium in that span, having last faced Venezuela in Pasadena on May 5, 2006, in the send-off match prior to the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
