Serious hamstring injury sidelines defender

Chris Albright will miss both national team tournaments this summer and possibly the entire season with the Galaxy.

Galaxy right back Chris Albright suffered a serious injury when he landed awkwardly in the fifteen minute of the match this past weekend versus Chivas USA.

After MRI tests were conducted on Monday, the Galaxy organization was not optimistic about Albright’s immediate return.

“He could be out for the season,” declared Galaxy coach Frank Yallop. “He really tore his hamstring badly, right off the bone. That’s another blow to us. He’s having an operation on Thursday.”

Dealing with the absence of Albright is something the Galaxy had, to a certain extent, planned for this season. Because the defender is a frequent international for the U.S., his call-up to either Copa America or the Gold Cup was expected.

However, this injury and the recovery time from surgery may keep Albright away from his team even longer than both tournaments combined.

“It’s disappointing, obviously,” said Albright. “It’s not the best timing, but everybody deals with their fair share of injuries and I’ll come out of it a better man, hopefully.”

He didn’t blame fatigue or anything that took place in the Chivas USA/Galaxy match in particular for the injury.

“It was a freak landing – I couldn’t withstand the pressure of the fall,” explained Albright.
