The event begins at 9:00 a.m. PT and the first round will be broadcast on ESPN2, with the second and third rounds to be streamed on MLSsoccer.com. The Red-and-White also hold the 40th selection in the SuperDraft, the fourth selection in the third and final round.
The 2011 MLS SuperDraft will be the first major event for Robin Fraser, named Chivas USA’s new Head Coach on Tuesday, January 4. Chivas has had past success in the SuperDraft, finding impact players with first round picks including Brad Guzan (2005), Sacha Kljestan (2006), Michael Lahoud (2009) and Blair Gavin (2010), as well as late-round selections including Jonathan Bornstein (37th overall in 2006) and Ben Zemanski (47th overall in 2010).
For the first time, the MLS SuperDraft will consist of only three rounds, and will be followed on Tuesday, January 18 with a three-round Supplemental Draft. Chivas USA holds its natural fourth pick in the SuperDraft’s first and third rounds. The Red-and-White do not hold a second round pick, having dealt the selection to Real Salt Lake in 2008 for Carey Talley (the selection now belongs to the Portland Timbers).
