February 24, 2010 DOUBLE DRAWS Chivas ties Wizards twice
PHOENIX-- Chivas USA and the Kansas City Wizards played to draws in a pair of 60-minute matches held Wednesday at the Reach 11 Sports Complex. In the first match, Mariano Trujillo scored the goal for the Chivas off a great assist from Michael Lahoud, while Josh Wolff struck back for the Wizards.
Chivas came out strong in the first match, with Maykel Galindo putting a shot just wide in the 11th minute before the team got on the board in minute 26. Michael Lahoud took a pass from Ante Jazic and dribbled through the Kansas City defense before slotting a ball to Trujillo, who finished to give Chivas USA the lead. Kansas City equalized off of a turnover, as Kei Kamara found Josh Wolff alone at the top of the box, and the Wizards forward hit a low shot past Jon Conway.
The second game featured younger players on both sides, and despite chances from both teams, neither club could find the net. Michael Kraus nearly got the Wizards on the board early, but saw his effort saved by Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.
Wednesday’s matches were Chivas USA’s first against MLS opposition in 2010, and the team next faces the Columbus Crew on either Friday or Saturday in Phoenix.
