January 21, 2010 AN EXTRA PICK Chivas trades rights to Harmes to Houston
CARSON, Calif.– Chivas USA has acquired a conditional MLS SuperDraft pick from the Houston Dynamo in exchange for the rights to midfielder Kevin Harmse.
The conditional third or fourth round pick was received for the Canadian midfielder, who made 12 appearances (eight starts) in the 2009 season, all with Toronto, missing the second half of the season with a right knee injury.
Chivas acquired Harmes from Toronto in June for allocation money.
In two and a half seasons in MLS, Harmse has played a total of 45 MLS matches (34 starts), having represented the LA Galaxy (2007) and Toronto FC (2008-2009). Prior to joining MLS, Harmse played for the Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL First Division, as well as Tromso Idrettslag in Norway. Born on July 4, 1984 in Johannesburg, South Africa, Harmse was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, and has made nine appearances for the Canadian National Team.
