Liguilla semifinals roundup
Toluca 2, America 0
Top-seeded Toluca opened the Liguilla semifinals with a convincing 2-0 win over Club America Thursday at Estadio Azteca.
After a scoreless first half, Lucas Silva sealed the win with a 54th-minute header, and Edgar Benitez added the insurance tally in the 90th, off a three-on-one breakaway.
The Diablos Rojos host the return leg of the aggregate-goals series Sunday at Estadio Nemesio Diez.
Leon 2, Tijuana 0
Liga MX newcomers Leon blanked second-seeded Tijuana 2-0 in Thursday’s first leg of their Liguilla semifinal series at Estadio Nou Camp.
La Fiera put the game away within a two-minute span of the second half. Youngster Othoniel Arce froze netminder Cirilo Saucedo with a long shot into the left side of the net in the 56th minute, and found Carlos Pena in front of the goal for the 2-0 advantage in the 58th.
The Xolos will attempt to overcome the two-goal deficit on their home turf when the series concludes Sunday at Estadio Caliente.
