Leticia Villalplano and Iris Mora scored consecutive goals within a three-minute span late in the game to propel the Mexico women’s national soccer team to a 3-1 victory over defending NCAA champion USC in an exhibition match before 3,217 fans in the Coliseum on Friday.

Seeing Mexican teams playing in Southern California is not unusual. Neither is seeing them in the Los Angeles Coliseum. But most often, it’s men’s teams playing major international opponents. Not so on Friday, when the Mexican Women’s National Team will face the USC Women of Troy at 7pm.

USC goalkeeper Kristin Olsen and UCLA forward Lauren Cheney have been named finalists for the 2007-08 Honda Sports Award, the Collegiate Women Sports Awards announced today. One of the highest honors for a female athlete, the Honda Award is presented to the top woman collegiate athlete in each sport every year.

COLLEGE STATION, TX---Ali Khosroshahin laughed like he had been at USC for years. But Sunday, he led his team to a national championship in his first season with the Trojans.
Khosroshahin’s honeymoon period with his new team never ended, even when they realized he wasn’t kidding about taking nothing less than a national title. He wouldn’t even let the team celebrate their wins.

COLLEGE STATION, TX---It was hot enough to be summer in College Station, even on Dec. 9. But it was the even hotter USC Trojans that melted the Florida State Seminoles 2-0 to win the NCAA Division I championship. It was the first-ever women’s soccer championship for USC.

COLLEGE STATION, TX--Despite taking a beating in the first half, physically and on the scoreboard, USC’s Trojans showed they would not let an early setback keep them from a championship game appointment on December 9. USC rebounded from a first-half 1-0 deficit to throttle the skillful Bruins 2-1 Friday. Amy Rodriguez scored both USC goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Olsen had a hand in two of USC’s program-record 14 shutouts last season, but as the starting keeper for all of the Trojans’ games this year Olsen has now notched 11 solo shutouts and three shared after Friday’s shutout inWest Virginia — which tied that program record of 14 for the Trojans.
