BRUINS' MEN'S RECRUITS
UCLA announces five signings
The UCLA men’s team signed five players to National Letters of Intent during the signing period, four incoming freshman and one junior college transfer Jason Romero, who scored a school record 32 goals for Pima Community College.
“Each year signing day is exciting to welcome new student-athletes to the UCLA soccer family,” UCLA coach Jorge Salcedo said. “I am thrilled to have these five players join our program. They all possess the most important tangible we look for; a strong desire to reach their full potential in the classroom and on the field.”
The high school players signing were defender Reggie Cannon and forward McKinze Gaines, who are with the U.S. U-19 team, plus first team Arizona All-State defender Ethan Shacknai (Brophy Prep/Real Salt Lake Academy) and Minnesota Thunder Academy goalkeeper Duncan Werling.
“As far as the attributes on the field, we are bringing in a group that will add quality in all facets of the game,” Salcedo said. “Above all is the competitive greatness each one will bring to our program. This incoming class is fantastic and over the next few months we will be adding to the quality, which will ensure that the 2016 class is one of the best in the country.”
The Bruins’ recruiting class was ranked number five in the country by Top Drawer Soccer. This is UCLA’s fourth consecutive top five recruiting class, after finishing with the top class in each of the previous three seasons.
