The UCLA men's soccer team will play one of its most challenging schedules yet, facing five of the seven schools to win NCAA championships this decade (North Carolina, Indiana, Maryland, UC Santa Barbara and Wake Forest).

UCLA has added three more players to the freshman class, signing midfielder/forward Eder Arreola (Chino Hills, CA/Edison Academic Center), forward Prince Lapnet (Silver Spring, MD/Archbishop Carroll HS) and defender Victor Yanez (Riverside, CA/Patriot HS) to national letters of intent.

UCLA men sign seven
The UCLA Bruins have signed seven players to national letters of intent. Joining the freshman class of 2008 will be midfielder/defender Chris Cummings, midfielder Daren Flitcroft, defender Oscar Reyes, midfielder/defender Andrew Rose, goalkeeper Joseph Scachetti, midfielder Christian Vazquez and defender Zach Zerrenner.

Seven players have signed national letters of intent to join UCLA’s women’s soccer team. Headlining the group are four players with youth national team experience, while two more are Region-IV ODP Team members. All seven players will be freshmen in the fall of 2008.

Kenny named assistant at UCLA
Former Major League Soccer player Kenny Arena has been hired as an assistant coach for the UCLA men’s soccer team. Arena was an assistant coach at George Mason last season and a volunteer coach for the University of Virginia in 2006.

UCLA senior defenders Brandon Owens (Murrieta, CA) and Greg Folk (Woodland Hills, CA) were selected by DC United and the Los Angeles Galaxy, respectively, in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft.

USC’s Olsen, UCLA’s Cheney on list of four
USC goalkeeper Kristin Olsen and UCLA forward Lauren Cheney have been named finalists for the 2007-08 Honda Sports Award, the Collegiate Women Sports Awards announced today. One of the highest honors for a female athlete, the Honda Award is presented to the top woman collegiate athlete in each sport every year.

For the second consecutive season, UCLA senior defender Mike Zaher (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS) was selected to the NSCAA All-Far West Region third-team.

UCLA’s Zaher, Owens will show off for MLS
UCLA senior defenders Brandon Owens and Mike Zaher have been chosen as two of 54 college seniors from 33 Division I schools who have been invited to participate in the 2008 adidas MLS Player Combine. The annual player combine will be held at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Jan. 11-15, 2008.

COLLEGE STATION, TX--Despite taking a beating in the first half, physically and on the scoreboard, USC’s Trojans showed they would not let an early setback keep them from a championship game appointment on December 9. USC rebounded from a first-half 1-0 deficit to throttle the skillful Bruins 2-1 Friday. Amy Rodriguez scored both USC goals.

Forward Danesha Adams headed in a corner kick in fourth minute of double-overtime on Friday, sending the top-seeded UCLA women’s soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over second-seeded Portland on a rain-soaked evening at Drake Stadium.

The top-seeded UCLA women (19-1-2) host second-seeded Portland (18-3) this Friday in an NCAA Quarterfinal showdown at Drake Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to next week's NCAA College Cup in College Station, Texas.

ST.LOUIS---Three members of the UCLA Bruins have been name semifinalists for the women's Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy. Danesha Adams, Christina DiMartino and Lauren Cheney are all on the list of 15 players. Notre Dame also had three players named to the list.
