MEXICAN LEAGUE CLAUSURA
Week 11 Roundup

Tecos 3-3 Atlas

A last minute strike by Sebastian "Chamagol" Gonzalez helped Tecos salvage a shorthanded three-goal home draw against the Rojinegros at Jalisco Stadium.

Tecos went down a man in the 76th minute, when Marcelo Sosa was ejected, but overcame long odds to snatch the point.

"It is very good for us, specially after the expulsion, to have earned a point," Gonzales
said after the match. The Chilean striker attributed his equalizer to the team's work ethic. "The goal was a product of the team's effort. My teammates never gave up".

Monterrey 3-2 Cruz Azul

The Rayados of Monterrey put an end to their four-match winless streak, and claimed third place in Group Two, with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Cruz Azul at the Tecnologico Stadium. Miscues were the name of the game through the first half, as a series of errors left the teams tied at two goals.

In the second half, veteran players took over for the Rayados, as Jared Borgetti set up Jesus "Cabrito" Arellano for the match winner. "This team wants to qualify (to the league playoffs) and today we demonstrated that," Felipe Baloy told reporters after the match.

Jaguares 3-2 Tigres UANL

Itamar Baptista’s double guided Jaguares of Chiapas to their third straight league win,
3-2 over Tigres at Victor Manuel Reyna Stadium.

"Being in the relegation zone is worrisome," Manuel Lapuente said at the postmatch
press conference.

"At least we came out here to score goals. We scored two in the second half. Perhaps we could have scored a third but being down by three goals is a difficult task to overcome," continued the Tigres head coach. "What we did in the final we should have done at the
start of the game".

Chivas 2-1 Pachuca

Chivas of Guadalajara remain undefeated and atop the table with a 2-1 home win over Tuzos of Pachuca.

The match was resolved in the final minutes Luis Gabriel Rey scored in the 81st minute to cancel Omar Bravos’ opener. Sergio Avila, however, responded five minutes later applying the finishing touch to a well-orchestrated Chivas play.

"I am very happy with the team’s victory. That is what makes me happy," said Bravo, who put Chivas in the lead in the 32nd minute with his eighth goal of the season. "I am not worried about the mark (100 career goals). That will come with work. I work and dedicate myself to the coach’s instructions, and that is all," continued the Chivas striker, who is only one goal away from reaching the century mark.

America 0-1 Toluca

Christian Gimenez’s 27th-minute goal was enough to allow the Diablos Rojos of Toluca to walk away from Azteca Stadium with the victory, extending America's winless streak to seven league games. The defeat leaves the Mexico City giants at the bottom of
the table with eight points, making this one of the club’s worst seasons ever.

"The Clausura (championship) is very complicated. There is nothing to complain about after all the injuries and player absences," a disappointed Romano said at the postmatch press conference. "We have a better chance at the Copa Libertadores, and that is what we
will concentrate on," continued the Aguilas boss. "This does not mean we will throw in the towel in league play, but we must be realistic. We are at the bottom of the table and need to focus on the tourney where we have better possibilities," concluded Romano.

Morelia 0-0 Necaxa

After seven long years, Luis Fernando Tena returned to Morelia, which he once lead to Championship glory, to try and improve the Monarcas’ chances of making the league playoffs. He did not get quite the result he hoped for in his return match, however, as the "Monarcas" had to settle for a scoreless draw against Necaxa.

"This game leaves us, on one hand, tired from what was done in the field, a game which we did not win. We had more goal scoring chances, many options. This is a strong team, dedicated, and intense. On the other hand I am bothered ny not having won," Tena told
reporters after the match.

Puebla 1-2 San Luis

San Luis earned an important road win, 2-1 over relegation-threatened Puebla, to remain within three points of league leaders Chivas. The Gladiators took advantage of two mistakes from goalkeeper Guadalupe Martinez to take three points from Cuauhtémoc Stadium.

"I just want to point out that I am very proud of my players, that I don't care about this defeat, that Puebla will not be relegated and that the type of people that were booing Lupe after the first goal don't deserve to have a team like Puebla," a bothered
Jose Luis Sola said after the match.

Pumas UNAM 1-1 Santos Laguna

Vicente Mattias Vuoso struck in the 38th minute to help Santos steal a one-goal draw from Pumas at Universitario Stadium. The draw keeps Santos atop Group Two with 17 points, while UNAM remains third in Group One.

"This is not bad or good. It is a regular result," said Francisco Palencia after the match. The former Chivas USA striker believes that Pumas is on the right path to secure a spot in the league playoffs. "As long as we keep adding points the team will be stable. Hopefully we can start winning again, because it is long overdue, but the important thing is that we have not lost," concluded Palencia.

Atlante 2-2 Veracruz

Atlante, last season’s league champions, continued their poor form, surrendering a point to relegation-bound Veracruz at Quintana Roo Stadium and extending their winless streak to seven league games.

Claudio Graf scored the equalizer, four minutes from time, after being set up by Rodrigo "Pony" Ruiz.
